Thanks for checking out the official website of the Spokane Karuta Society! We are a karuta club that was just formed in August, 2013, and operate out of Spokane, Washington, U.S.A.. The goal of our club is to spread the interest in the traditional Japanese card game known as karuta. The Spokane Karuta Society specializes in playing competitive karuta, also know as hyakunin isshu karuta. This specific type of karuta is popular in Japan, and is even recognized as an official sport. While it may be popular in Japan, it is almost unheard of anywhere else. Karuta is a truly a fun yet immersive game that can be enjoyed by anyone, no matter who you are! Our goal is to show off how much fun karuta can be, so that hopefully it will become something more people come to love and immerse themselves.

Everyone is welcome to join. Whether you're a novice or an expert, we'll accept you with open arms! If you don't know how to read hiragana, we'll be glad to help you learn quickly so you can enjoy playing karuta as soon as possible!
